Paddle Craft ID Requirement

A 2026 Connecticut law requires all unregistered paddle craft, including kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards, to display the owner's contact information.

You can get a free “If Found” sticker that includes lines for your name and two emergency numbers by submitting a request through the CT DEEP Online Boating Form or by emailing your mailing address and the number of stickers you need to deep.boating@ct.gov

Alternatives (if the sticker is not available from CT DEEP) include the use of a waterproof luggage/identification tag attached by a zip-tie, or a strip of duct tape with the contact information written on it with waterproof marker, or information printed on paper and placed in a plastic bag that is sealed and duct-taped to an interior space of the vessel. Even printing the contact information directly onto the vessel using permanent marker would be compliant.
